Untiring Efforts Bear Results

Ganga, aged 15 years at the time of writing this case study, is daughter of Ram Chandra, residing at Bubani in Ajmer district. When she was just 8 years old, her father started taking her to stone mines for help. Every morning she accompanied her father to work and broke stones with hammer. Her tender hands were soon full of blisters and she started becoming weak with each passing day. Yet she continued to labour hard and help her father.

The organisation's workers met Ram Chandra to allow her to enrol in Special Child Labour School. Initially, Ram Chandra refused and gave a number of reasons for his refusal. But the workers continued with their efforts. They told Ram Chandra ill effects of child labour, the law in this respect and importance of education. Ultimately, Ganga was enrolled in Special Child Labour School, Bubani, on July 25, 2000.

As Ganga had never gone to school earlier, she did not like the school at all. She also did not take any interest in studies. While understanding her situation, the teachers made efforts to enable her to adapt to the environment of school. They paid attention to her games, entertainment and studies. With her labour and dedication, Ganga completed five classes in three years and got admitted to class 6 in Government Upper Primary School. With continued support from the family and her dedication, she is now studying in class 10. She intends to study further and become a doctor ultimately to serve the society.
