Millet Processing & Value Addition

Introduction – Millet Processing & Value Addition is running with financial Support of Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Government of India under Scheme of Fund for Regeneration Of Traditional Industries (Sfurti). Nodal Agency- PPDC Agra, Technical Agency – Nisarg and Implementing Agency - Gramin Mahila Vikas Sansthan. The Millet Processing and Value Addition Cluster, Ajmer Rajasthan was presented by representatives of the Nodal Agency with proposed strength of 800. As a major cluster under SFURTI scheme.

The cluster has a large production of Millet such as Sorghum and pearl Millet, with no value addition mechanism in place. With the installation of the CFC and Machinery, there will be on site value addition margin in the value added products which ranges from 150-200% shall be directly transferred to the cluster beneficiaries. The cluster will be producing value added products of sorghum and Pearl Millet.  Such as Sorghum and Pearl Millet Puffs, Instant Mixes, Coated Vermicelli, Millet Pasta, Millet Cookies and Protein Bars, in the post-covid scenario the cluster shall also be producing Zinc fortified products for immunity boosting as well as gluten free products.

This project is running in Ajmer city. Ajmer is called as the Education City of Rajasthan. Ajmer is a bustling, chaotic city, 130 km southwest of Jaipur and just 13 km from the Hindu pilgrimage town of Pushkar. Ajmer is also a significant centre for the JAIN High-Voltage crowds and traffic, especially during Ramadan and the anniversary of the saint’s death; most travellers choose to use Ajmer as a stepping stone to laid-back Pushkar.

Origin of Cluster – The agriculture activity mostly depends on the monsoon hence the cropping pattern has remained more or less unchanged over the years. The principal crops grown in the area are Pearl, Millet, Maize, Groundnut, Moong, Cowpea and Mustard are grown.

Objectives

  • The Overall goal of the Millet processing technology and training component of the project is to establish a successful entrepreneurial unit of processing of competitive millet and sorghum food products for expansion of the grain in the market place with better quality and wide product range.
  • Better marketing, branding and technology.

Experience in handling Cluster Development Programme -

The IA through sustainable utilization of human and natural resources, via formation of women self-help groups, clusters and federations, empower women from backward and deprived rural communities to become self-sufficient both financially and socially is working since 1998. The vision of the organization is “to empower the deprived and vulnerable sections of the community, by enhancing their knowledge and awareness, thus providing them with sustainable avenues to growth and development.
